December 9: Knowing it wouldn't be the the toughest game of the season, we came out focusing on sticking to what we needed to continually get better at. Defense and a sense of urgency! Although the scoreboard didn't show any sign of weakness, knocking off Hannibal-LaGrange 104-53, coach found a way to critique the girls at half time in order to pick up the tempo. This game had a little sentimental value for Junior forward, Ali Schwagmeyer, as she faced her sister, Angie, for the first time on separate teams. Ali showed her will as she finish the game as the leading scorer of a very even scaled evening. Putting up 13 points in 16 minutes of play. Daryle Goldie and Courtney Shuman both added 10 points. As well as Kassidy Shuman, Steph Wagner, Jessica Vaughn and Karlee Gengenbacher all contributing.
December 18: After a couple days off from practice, and a nice long week of testing and finals. We still came out fighting this past weekend. Topping off a very fast paced University of Missouri (St. Louis) team. Coming out a little slow and looking tired. Coach JD Gravina nipped that problem right in the butt (doing his signature move) ripping off his jacket, and getting the girls a little more motivated to pick it up. We finished the first half with a 11 point lead, after being behind by 8 points at one time. Winning the game by a final of 93-70! Courtney Shuman once again showed how dominate she is, finishing with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Courtney also added her name to Quincy University basketballs finest, as she joined the 1,000 point club. Hitting the shot with 18 seconds left and an alarm going off in honor of her! JUST KIDDING, although the fire alarm did go off, unfortunately it was not because she's a plain ol' STUD:) Ali Schwagmeyer also played like a beast on this evening, finishing the game just short of a triple double, with 15 points, 9 assists, and 8 boards for the hawks. Daryle Goldie also stepped up big, hitting about every shot she took and scoring 17 points, 5-7 from behind the arc.
Let me just say it was a good way to end the first half of the season. We are now 8-1 entering into Christmas break! And there is much more fun to be had. Returning to the hardwood December 30th against Oakland City at 5:15pm! Be THERE!
